Your Back, Neck or Shoulder Pain Could Be Coming From Your Gut!

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

There is a very strong link between chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, and problems within the gut. I have had clients come to me with digestive issues which I have rectified using the Arvigo massage techniques. The desire to learn this therapy came from the fact that my 13 year back pain was cured by only one session of this therapy. The back pain could have been caused by a number of things, perhaps a tilted uterus lying on a nerve for example. Or it could have come from underlying digestive issues.

It will not occur to many people who have back, shoulder or neck pain, that it may be resulting from digestion problems. Even after their repeated visits to physical therapists, be it deep tissue massage therapists or chiropractors, the pain just won’t go. There is no underlying cause such as severe arthritis, degenerative joint disease, or a bulging disk.

Then the pain could well be coming from digestive issues and stress.

Spinal nerves connect to muscles and organs. The nerves which connect to specific organs in our gut, also connect to certain muscles in the back and the neck. If the bowel slows, causing constipation, the lower back can tighten. If one of your digestive organs is under stress, then the nerve connecting it to the corresponding muscle in your back, or neck, will then become tense and painful. Whenever one of the digestive organs is stressed we get contractions and pain in the muscles that share the organ’s corresponding nerve root.

Kidney stress is caused by poor digestion. The large bowel stresses from constipation and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Your lower back pain could very well be connected to something commonly suffered such as indigestion or IBS.

Chronic pain between the shoulder blades or in the neck could be originating from digestive organs, such as the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine or from a hiatal hernia.

Don’t forget when it comes to body pain, the source of the problem is not necessarily the site of the pain. The source of your back, neck or shoulder pain could well be coming from your gut.

This is another reason why Arvigo Therapy can help back pain!

Many anxieties and emotions through life are stored in our body's tissues and organs. A very common place is in the organs of the digestive system. Those so-called "butterflies in your stomach" can lead to constipation, indigestion, heartburn, gastritis, and eventually (IBS), gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Crohn's and more.

Stresses and emotions cause the small intestine and colon to be "twisted or kinked", causing blockages in the flow of peristalsis. The surrounding fascia creates adhesions which mal-position organs, and impede proper blood flow and enzyme secretions. These techniques slowly improve fascia adhesions, scar tissue and remove any "kinks" in the digestive tract. Often there is a dramatic improvement after just one session when combined with proper diet and self-care.

Some of the digestive issues that may benefit from the Arvigo massage techniques include:

Crohn’s disease

Ulcerative colitis

IBS

GERD (i.e. Heartburn or Acid Reflux)

Constipation

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

Indigestion

It is well worth giving this therapy a try. I am eternally grateful that I did!
